Global Financial Crisis Economic Slowdown: Impact on the Philippines and Policy Options
The Department of Trade and Industry, as Lead Convener of the Working Group on Growth and Investment Climate under the Philippines Development Forum (PDF), held a policy forum with the theme "Global Financial Crisis and Economic Slowdown: Impact on the Philippines and Policy Options," on 23 April 2009 at the Dusit Thani Hotel, Makati City. The objective of the forum is to assess the impact of the global financial crisis and economic slowdown on the priority industries identified by the government including the agribusiness, IT-BPO, tourism, mining and transport and logistics. Industry leaders, government officials, development partners and local chief executives/representatives of selected provinces, cities and municipalities attended the forum. It is envisioned that through the forum, a consensus on strategic measures will be forged to further enhance the country's competitiveness and help prepare these industries for the impending global economic recovery.
The event was funded by the LINC-EG project of USAID in partnership with the Department of the Interior and Local Government, the National Competitiveness Council and the International Finance Corporation of the World Bank Group.
